T ours proceed in all weather conditions at the discretion of our operations staff; we reserve the right to cancel tours due to low registration or weather. In such an event, staff members will contact guests as soon as possible via phone and email.

Tickets are required and can be purchased online or by phone when staff is available. The only legal access to the property is through one of the tour options. All visitors must check-in at Visitor Center to receive a wristband. All visitors are required to wear their wristband while on the property. Be advised that no pets are allowed on the tours, and there is no shady area to leave them at our Visitor Center. Registered service dogs are authorized.

Guided Tour of EFCH 2021:

Accompany an experienced docent for a fascinating discussion about the history of the Farnsworth House. Throughout 2020-21 the House will be decorated as Dr. Farnsworth had it in the mid 1950’s. This tour is approximately 60 minutes (45 exterior and 15 interior). Grounds access for the day is included in this ticket. You do NOT need to purchase an additional Grounds Access ticket to enjoy the grounds.

$25 (plus $2.50 convenience fee online)

Edith Farnsworth’s Country House Specialty Tours (Thursdays Only):

Starting April 1, 2021 we will once again offer special guided tours of Farnsworth House, focused on Dr. Farnsworth’s life and times – and the current furnishing of the House as it appeared in early 1955. Although Mies van der Rohe had specified furniture of his own design, Dr. Farnsworth preferred Scandinavian Modern furniture by Jens Risom, Bruno Mathsson, Florence Knoll and other top designers. This tour is approximately 80 minutes (60 exterior and 20 interior).

$30 (plus $2.50 convenience fee online)

Exterior View and Access to the Grounds:

We are happy to welcome you to enjoy the grounds of Farnsworth House for walking, quiet reflection, or picnicking on the lawn. Edith Farnsworth’s Country House – the temporary refurnishing of Farnsworth House to its 1955 appearance – may be viewed outside the home and from the upper terrace, using our online exhibition guide. No interior tours are included of the Farnsworth House.

Guests are encouraged to arrive prepared for the outdoors (i.e. sunscreen, insect repellent, water, a folding chair or picnic blanket – and umbrellas or rain ponchos, if needed) Our gift shop and restrooms (inside the Visitor Center) will be open following Covid-19 safety standards. Social distancing protocols will be in effect and guests are required to wear masks when indoors and encouraged to wear them outdoors, as well when social space is limited. Our photo policy as listed on our website is enforced.

The Farnsworth House Historic Site is not a public park, so climbing, fires, loud music and active sports are discouraged. Please arrive any time between 10am and 2pm for Exterior access to the grounds. Grounds close at 3:30pm.

Moonlight Tours:

Discover Mies van der Rohe’s celebrated Farnsworth House in a new light during our special Moonlight Tours, back by popular demand. These exclusive tours will start at dusk and return after dark, lasting approximately 90 minutes. Guests will be led along a lighted path with woods on one side and the Fox River on the other, to enjoy a full guided tour of Farnsworth House illuminated against the evening sky.

$30 (plus $2.50 convenience fee online)

Twilight Picnic & Moonlight Tour:

Bring a picnic basket and enjoy the twilight hours on the grounds of Farnsworth House. At dusk, guests will gather for guided tours of the house illuminated against the evening sky under the light of the moon. Following the tour return to the Visitor Center on our lighted path. Shuttle service will be available to assist guests with picnic items.

Too busy to pack a picnic? Pre-order charcuterie & cheese boxes and a cookie for dessert for $22 per person. Boxes should be picked up at the Visitor Center before heading to the house. Please provide your own beverages. — Please note those interested in ordering boxes must purchase tickets and order boxes by Sunday, June 20th!
