In 2013, the difficult preservation decision was made to remove the dying Black Maple from the front of Farnsworth House. Clones and seedlings were both saved with a future plan to replant the most viable offspring, as well as a select portion of the wood for artisan projects. Farnsworth House turned to woodworker Mike Jarvi (http://www.mikejarvi.com/), renowned for his one-piece tables and benches, for a series of 7 turned maple bowls— six of which have been on display in the Farnsworth House Visitor Center. They were recently featured in the Spring 2018 issue of Preservation Magazine. Farnsworth House is pleased to announce that two of the seven unique maple bowls created from the wood of the tree are set to be auctioned off!
The first bowl sold on October 14th at Heritage Auctions Dallas showroom.
The second bowl sold on November 14th at the Leslie Hindman Modern Design auction in Chicago.
